(Newswire.net — September 18, 2013) Portland, ORSeven is a unique prayer effort encompassing dozens of churches across the Portland metro area. The goal and passion of the project is to to have thousands of people gather together for seven days of prayer and fasting.

In 2013, Seven has expanded to cover various regions around the region. Participants are being asked to select the regions closest to where they normally congregate in order to pray and fast with new brothers and sisters in their community.

This weeklong Portland prayer emphasis started roughly five years ago. What started as a grassroots movement has grown steadily but has exploded this year to four local regions areas even crossing the Columbia River into Vancouver, Washington.

There is no magic in the name “Seven”. It just simply comes from the seven days that it covers. This year the dates are from Sunday Sept. 19 through Saturday Oct. 5.

On Monday evening, Sept. 30 and on the final day, Sunday, Oct. 5, all four regions will come together in united prayer services. The Monday service will be held at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Portland, 909 S.W. 11th Ave. The final gathering will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 5 at the bowl at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Portland.

Most evenings, prayers will go to various designated churches in their regions. Each prayer service will be collaborative, led by key pastors and in a “concert of prayer” format.

According to organizers, the bottom-line goal of Seven is a unity in prayer among God’s people that can then spark a spiritual renewal in the entire city and vicinity.

The regions of Seven are:

Seven Portland – the area between 217 and 205 (SW, NW, NE, and SE Portland).

Seven West – the area west of 217 (Tigard, Tualatin, Beaverton, Wilsonville, etc.).

Seven East County – is for those living east of I-205.

Seven Clark County – those living north of Portland in Vancouver, WA and surrounding areas.

It should be noted that Childcare is not provided at any of the Seven gatherings.
