Jude Narita writes plays with cutting honesty, humor, compassion and courage, combining the virtuosity of an actress with the intellect of a warrior. Since writing her first play, her award winning and most famous work, “Coming Into Passion/Song For A Sensei”, she has written and performed her one-woman plays nationally and internationally.  For over two decades she has continued to create and perform her plays, bringing Asian and Asian American Women to the front of the stage with humor, authenticity and celebration. Narita explores the issues Asian and Asian American women face, and then transcends them. Her works celebrate our differences and illuminate our universal humanity.

On October 22, 2013, Narita brings her one woman show “Celebrate Me Home Again” to the “United Solo” stage in New York City. “Celebrate Me Home Again” traverses the broad scope of Asian American women’s experiences here in the United States. From a polished news broadcaster to a new Cambodian immigrant stunned by the plenty at her local supermarket to a Japanese picture bride from the early 1900’s, these vividly portrayed women show us the vibrant diversity of Asian American experience that has been hidden and consequently, ignored and unknown. For audiences who don’t have Asian American friends and family, each vignette is alternately tender, hilarious and heartbreakingly heartfelt. Ms. Narita’s performances are spot on. “United Solo” is running 8 weeks of solo performance plays, each one intriguing and worth the time to look into.

Ms. Narita has been featured on the PBS Smithsonian episode “Gender”, which presented the work of only 5 selected U.S. artists across the United States. She is the recipient of over 20 awards and grants, details of which may be found on her website: www.judenarita.com. She has toured and presented her work in every state in the United States. Ms. Narita was named one of the “50 Asians Who Will Be Making A Difference” by Asian Week, the Voice of Asian America, and “One Of The Top 100 Asian Americans In The Nation” by Trans Pacific Magazine. She is currently acting president of PAAWWW (Pacific Asian American Women Writers West.) PAAWWW encourages and supports Asian American women writers.

Her one woman shows bring audiences to tears and shouts, weaving stories and emotional enlightenments in each and every performance. A keen intellect and will of fire, bring characters to life as she unveils the realities of Asian American Woman’s World with wit and wisdom.

“In an astonishing solo performance, Jude Narita, a versatile actress and fearless writer, sheds an authentic, humorous and deeply moving light on the dilemma of the Asian American woman.” – Critics Choice / LA Reader
