Derick Martini was born and raised in New York City, and is now taking on the world. He completed his motion picture debut as an actor, co-writer, and producer of the micro-budget independent film Smiling Fish & Goat on Fire, which was released in 2000. This film has received great critical accolades and numerous awards, such as the Audience Award at the prominent Milan International Film Festival, and the Discovery award at the critically acclaimed Toronto International Film Festival.

Derick Martini made his directorial debut a few years later, in 2009, with the highly acclaimed Lymelife, which also won numerous awards. Lymelife, which was produced by the iconic Martin Scorsese, won Best Feature Film and Best Director at the International Federation of Film Critics, plus Best Screenplay and Best Director at the Milan International Film Festival. Martini was also nominated for a Gotham Award for Best Breakthrough Director. Ever since his work on Smiling Fish & Goat on Fire, Derick Martini has gained more experience and attention from those who have influence in today’s Hollywood scene. Martin Scorsese has openly discussed his admiration for Derick Martini, and he is not the only Hollywood elite to take notice. Robert Redford’s 2002 documentary, Sundance 20, took an in-depth look at the Sundance Filmmaker’s Lab where Derick Martini developed Lymelife. It was at the Sundance lab where he was mentored by Redford, Alfonso Cuaron, Christopher McQuarrie and Scott Frank. Since then, Derick Martini co-wrote and produced the black and white, feature-length silent film Louis with Daniel Pritzker. He also directed the controversial feature film Hick, starring Chloe Grace Moretz. Meanwhile he’s developed a close relationship with singer/songwriter Bob Dylan after getting permission to use a variation of one of Dylan’s songs in an iconic scene of Lymelife.

Derick Martini is gaining ground so quickly that he is already to the point of working with some of Hollywood’s elite actors. He has already worked with the likes of Moretz, Eddie Redmayne, Emma Roberts, Rory Culkin, Timothy Hutton, Juliette Lewis, Blake Lively and Alec Baldwin. His most recent work with Bella Heathcote on the film The Curse of Downers Grove even had him written up in Vanity Fair as a filmmaker that should definitely be watched as one of Hollywood’s next “Muse Directors”.

If you have been looking for a new filmmaker to keep an eye on that has a fresh and engaging view and perspective, then watch for Derick Martini. He will not only keep you thrilled while watching the movies he is able to bring to life now, but he will also keep you ready and waiting to see what other tricks he has up his sleeves for years to come.
