(Newswire.net — November 19, 2013) Longwood, FL — Lake Center Yoga is believed to be the oldest yoga studio in the Orlando area as it celebrates its 15th anniversary at its Longwood location. How has it not only survived, but thrived?

It starts with its owner/instructor husband/wife team of Sri Ekan and Nirgunavathi Ananda. Between them, they have over 35 years of experience teaching yoga. They learned under some of the most highly regarded yoga trainers in the world and have taken hundreds of hours of yoga teacher training.

Students at Lake Center Yoga report that the alignment principles they are taught there are not only safe, but open their bodies and beyond.

“Their teaching involves finding your inner self with the awareness of your body, mind, soul and thoughts,” said Pharmaceutical Rep Susi Costa. “In my non-stop routine, with Sri and Nirgunavathi at Lake Center Yoga I regroup and get in contact with myself.”

While many yoga studios have jettisoned spirituality from their classes, it is emphasized by Sri Ekan and Nirgunavathi Ananda.

“Lake Center has lasted so long because we have never tried to just get people in the door by caving into the “yoga for exercise only” mentality,” said Sri Ekan. “Yoga is infinitely vast and rich.  We respect that and reflect that in all of our classes at Lake Center Yoga by integrating all aspects of the yoga experience in body, mind and spirit.”

Yoga is the oldest health care system in the world, he said.

“We are going to keep expanding on the Yoga Sutras as class themes to integrate the mental and spiritual parts of yoga into the asana practice and into the lives of our students,” Nirgunavathi Ananda said. “There is never a dull moment with the Yoga Sutras, learning alignment in the poses and feeling better and better all the time!”

Lake Center Yoga offers classes for all levels including yoga for beginners. Much of the teaching there is based on the alignment principles of Anusara Yoga that are designed to be both very safe for everyone and extremely effective. Private yoga lessons are also available.

Meditation has been the foundational aspect of yoga since its inception centuries ago. The studio also offers a well-attended Friday night meditation class to support a broader yoga practice.

The studio also holds one-day yoga retreats on Sundays, typically once a month.  Limited to 15 participants,  the retreats go in-depth on a yoga-related theme such as the upcoming “The Opening of the Lotus in Divine Light”. The day is filled with chanting, meditation, many yoga poses and a vegan lunch featuring dishes prepared with produce from the owners’ vegetable and fruit garden.
