(Newswire.net — November 16, 2013) Philadelphia, PA — Michael Price, owner of Global Real Estate Solutions in Stroudsburg, is trying to raise awareness about cancer research due to his recent home sale to a family whose grown daughter, a mother of 2 young children herself, was diagnosed with the disease.

Price is donating 10 percent of the profits from the sale to the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute at the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center to help the family and promote awareness. He is encouraging others wishing to help the cause to make donations by visiting the website – http://www.afcri.upenn.edu/giving.html.

“I’ve done over 400 real estate sales and 200 flips,” says Price, “but some are special.” The story of this family who wishes to remain anonymous, falls into the special category. The family was living happily in warm and sunny Florida, never dreaming they would want or need to purchase a home in Pennsylvania. But, when their daughter developed cancer they sought out the best treatment available. They found it at the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center.

It soon became apparent that the medical treatments would take considerable time, requiring extended stays in Pennsylvania. The family would need a home in the Poconos so they could be with their daughter and grandchildren. Keeping the family together and supporting her through this difficult time was crucial. They were able to find a recently renovated, move in ready home from Price’s company. It was the perfect solution in the right location.

Their situation struck a special chord with Stroudsburg resident Price when he reflected on their situation and remembered watching his own grandmother die from cancer. Now with a young daughter of his own, Price commented, “I can’t imagine what it’s like having cancer when you’re a mother of two young children. Kids just don’t deserve that.”

Michael Price believes that the real estate business is about more than simply making money. It’s also about improving lives and giving back to the surrounding Pocono community that makes his business possible. In the near future, he is planning events to raise awareness and help other victims both known and unknown to him personally.

“Sometimes, you just do things because it’s the right thing to do,” says Price. “If more people realize that, then we can really make a difference.”

People desiring to help the family mentioned in this article and other victims of cancer can donate through the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute website or by contacting Margaret Frederick at the Cancer Research Center at 216-756-3006.
