Photojournalist Scott Tucker recently announced the “Millennial Reflections” photo essay contest, an endeavor which he hopes will encourage the amateur photographers of America to push their images to a new level. The guidelines for the contest state that photographers should use work produced in 2014 to create a series of images that make a statement about the first fifteen years of the millennium. Tucker will begin accepting submissions for the contest in the spring of 2014, and will announce the winner on New Year’s day of 2015.

The winner of the contest will have their work featured and promoted by Scott Tucker. Tucker will also sell the prints of the winning photo essay and send all of the proceeds to the contest winner. While only the contest winner will receive monetary prizes, all submissions to the contest will receive professional criticism from Scott Tucker in order to help the photographers improve their skills.

According to Tucker, the real goal of the contest is to elevate the artistic worth of the ubiquitous images being created in the new millennium.

“Cameras are everywhere now and everyone is constantly taking pictures,” says Scott Tucker. “Photography has become essential to how we communicate with each other and many people are finding that the process of creating images is an important creative outlet to them. I want to reach those people and inspire them to put more intention and technique into the photos they take.”

Tucker states that ultimately, winning the contest is no the point of “Millennial Reflections”. The real focus for Scott Tucker will be giving feedback to all of the contest entrants.

“I want to give criticism and advice to as many people as I can,” says Tucker. “I think that good photography is becoming ever more essential, but I don’t want to give unsolicited advice, so this contest is a way for me to find the people that really want my feedback.

Submissions to the “Millennial Reflections” contest can be sent to Scott Tucker via electronic mail beginning April 1st, 2014 and ending November 30th, 2014.
