According to lifestyle and home publication HomeAndRecreation.org, Scott Tucker, Marietta, Georgia’s current Fire Chief has announced the start of a new fire ban in the city. The new ordinance would apparently also cover various major metropolitan areas in the Northern and Central regions of the state effective this coming summer. The ban, enacted by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, was created to fall in line with federal clean air guidelines.

As originally featured on the Marietta Patch website Georgia EPD stated that any open burning could potentially contribute to the creation of ozone. This could pose as a potential problem in the summer months due to the drier and warmer weather than during other points of the year. The ban is supposed to deter any burning and help keep ozone levels down, especially around metropolitan areas like Marietta.

The ban is expected to last through the summer ending on September 30th.
