Tom Buese, the Men’s Team Head Coach at Gedderts’ Twistars USA Gymnastics Club in Lansing, MI was awarded with the “2014 USA Gymnastics Michigan Men’s Coach of the Year Award.” Tom learned of this top honor during an award ceremony following the Michigan Men’s State Gymnastics Championships which took place in Battle Creek, MI this past weekend.
“It gives me great pleasure to see Tom rewarded by his peers. He’s one of the most passionate and dedicated coaches I’ve ever seen and it’s wonderful to see him receive this recognition” -says John Geddert, Owner of Twistars Gymnastics.
We spoke with Tom at the State Championship competition. He had this to say about receiving the top honor: “I’m honored to be the optional coach of the year. It means a lot to be chosen by the other coaches and judges around the state. I’d also like to thank Joe, Adam, and Hashem because having a team this strong is not something I could do on my own. I like to think I’m only as good as my gymnasts, so this is also a recognition of their hard work and dedication.”
Tom is a graduate of the University of Iowa where he was a 4-year standout on their nationally ranked Men’s gymnastics team. He was team captain during his senior year. Upon graduation, Twistars USA jumped at the opportunity to hire his expertise for their growing men’s program.
“Tom has a great coaching style that fits well with the aspiring athletes under his direction” -says Geddert.
Twistars’ boys program is rapidly gaining the respect of the gymnastics community as a result of their consistently impressive competition performances. In 2013 Buese made his intensions known nationally with the first ever boys national champion from Twistars Gymnastics (Jake Moore, pommel horse national champion).
