Jan Berkowitz a long time friend to the arts recently travelled to the North Texas town of Allen TX
for a little entertainment. JBGL Capital LP had sponsored a jazz band contest there between some of
the best high school jazz bands in the state of Texas.

Awards were given out and a good time was had by all. For Jan Berkowitz all that would change at 7pm when the University on North Texas One O’clock Lab band took the stage under the fine direction and leadership of Steve Wiest a former Maynard Ferguson lead trombone player, and himself a fabulous jazz musician.

What had surprised and amazed Jan was the fact that in fact three well known jazz musicians were about to take the stage in what would be an unexpectedly musical night filled with the sounds of 3 world famous musicians, who had all played in the famous Maynard Ferguson Band.

First there was Wayne Bergeron, a Los Angeles studio musician, well known for his play in movies like “The Incredibles” Listen to his short video of his masterful play.

Then there was Denis Diblasio who also is a Maynard Ferguson alumni. He plays the wind instruments like all the saxes and also the flute. Denis is a remarkable player and his music can be found all over the net. One thing that Jan Berkowitz was particularly impressed with was how well Denis shared solos with the college kids in the One O’clock Band. Jan Said, “It is just so refreshing to hear such great music, and yet see the professional players share the spotlight with the up and coming university players. It is just sheer heaven”!

Last but definitely not least is the great Frank David Greene who originally hails from the Silicon Valley area. Frank is the lead player for the David Letterman show, and Jan is an avid viewer of this late night show. So for Jan Berkowitz it was just the most joyous occassion to get to meet and hear these great jazzers who amazed and astonished the crowd as they each played beautifully the whole night long. — Note Be sure to listen to the short youtube videos supplied here to get a good idea of the amazing talent these musicians have. ###
