(Newswire.net — May 28, 2014) Chiang Mai, Thailand — Yoga and Thai Massage are actually members of the same family. Thai Massage originally came out of India’a yoga system. It was brought to Thailand about 2500 years ago, says Shama Kern, an expert on Thai Massage and founder and director of Thai Healing Massage Academy.

Many yoga teachers are successfully combining the two systems like Tanya Boigenzahn Sowards who is both a registered yoga instructor and a Thai Massage instructor with Thai Healing Alliance International (THAI).

Shama Kern, who has been teaching Thai Massage since 15 years, says that more than half of the Thai Massage students of his Thai Healing Massage Academy are either yoga practitioners or yoga teachers.

Yoga teachers are ideal candidates for Thai Massage, says Kern, since the basic principles of the two systems are very similar. Additionally many of the stretches in Thai Massage are essentially applied yoga poses.

In the words of yoga instructor Jessica Hughes “This is very similar to how we are taught to assist yoga students – with breath, with a good foundation, and with sensitivity to touch.”

Yoga instructors are finding that Thai Massage is not only a compatible element to their teaching, but it can add substantial revenue to their business since their existing students are a natural audience for Thai Yoga Massage.

According to Shama Kern, yoga teachers are finding it easy to learn Thai Massage since it feels like a natural extension of their existing yoga skills.

Jessica Hughes finds that Thai Massage helps her in her yoga teaching. After taking one of Thai Healing Massage Academy’s online courses, she comments: “I appreciated the training about “reading the body”. I heard that all the time in yoga teacher training, but now it is really clear to me how to do that on a physical level.”

“After yoga and Thai Massage went their own way 2500 years ago in two different directions and in two different countries, now they are being reunited as long lost family members”, says Shama Kern.

“Thai Massage and yoga complement each other perfectly”, he says. “Their combination results in higher client satisfaction, a higher skill set of the therapist, and a higher income”.
