(Newswire.net — September 9, 2014) Castle Rock, Colorado — Veterinarians and staff members at the Animal Care Center of Castle Pines enthusiastically accepted nominations for the ALS Ice Bucket challenge from both VRCC Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Hospital and Cranelli’s Pizza. On August 28, a total of 19 employees and 1 very brave Golden Retriever took the icy challenge and joined the ranks of millions of others who have helped promote awareness and raise money for the ALS Association.
“We hereby are taking part of the challenge,” says the speaker for the group in a video of the challenge posted on Facebook. “We will be donating as a group, and Animal Care Center will be matching the donations from our employees.”
At least one staff member came fully prepared to take on the challenge. Castle Rock veterinarian Dr. Molly Miller was fully decked out in a swim cap, goggles, a snorkel and even flippers, along with her white coat, of course.
In the video and photos the Animal Care Center shared on their Facebook page, staff members doused themselves and a Golden Retriever with several containers of varying sizes filled with chilly ice water.
The Animal Care Center of Castle Pines challenged OrthoPets and Animal Emergency and Specialty Center, stating: “Our employees also donated money to the ALS Foundation and the Animal Care Centers matched those donations…we challenge you to do the same!”
So far, the Ice Bucket Challenge has raised more than $110 million for ALS research, and the ALS Association couldn’t be more grateful for the donations that have been pouring in from around the globe. Though the specifics vary slightly, the general rule of the Ice Bucket Challenge is participants have to pour a bucket of ice water on themselves and donate $10 to the ALS Association. If this is not done within 24 hours, or the nominee would rather not be doused in icy water, he or she must donate $100 to the ALS Association. Many people and organizations, including the Animal Care Center of Castle Pines, however, have chosen to participate in the challenge and donate a substantial amount of money to the organization.
