(Newswire.net — November 2, 2014) Boston, MA — A new article and video from Health News Wires details obesity depression connection.  The article and video provide insight to end hormonal imbalance that causes the cycle of obesity and depression.

Nearly 1 in every 10 Americans are affected by depression.  There are also over 70 million Americans who suffer from obesity in the United States.  Research now shows a significant connection between obesity and depression.  Now, medical experts are looking into the connection to determine if obesity contributes to depression or depression contributes to obesity.

Recent studies indicate that obese people have a 25% greater chance of being depressed than people who are not obese.  Causes of depression in obese people range from emotional causes, like poor self-esteem and low self-image, to significant medical issues, including diabetes, inflammation, metabolic syndrome, and chronic inflammation.  Considering this information, researchers are now studying how hormones contribute to clinical depression, mental illness, or other anxiety disorders in obese people.

People who demonstrate depression symptoms are much more likely to gain weight and become obese; this is especially true in children and a direct cause of childhood obesity.  Depression contributes to weight gain as people often turn to a poor diet or excess eating in an attempt to feel good.  In fact, depression often contributes to low serotonin hormone levels; this often contributes to a much greater likelihood of becoming obese. How to prevent obesity may also be a solution for some suffering from depression.

Researchers at Harvard University studying nearly 60,000 subjects for up to 30 years concluded that people considered obese when first observed demonstrated a 50% greater chance of becoming depressed than non-obese subjects.  The same study also found that people who were depressed were more than 60% more likely to become obese.

While yet to determine a concrete cause and effect relationship between obesity and depression, researchers now believe that hormones have a significant role in contributing to both depression and obesity.  Researchers are looking for the way to prevent the obesity depression cycle , improving the quality of life for those who needs support with depression and obesity help.
