(Newswire.net — November 3, 2014) Bryan, TEXAS — University Health Systems has revealed this week its new Robert B. Green Campus in downtown San Antonio, is helping to meet the academic medical center’s goal of serving over 200,000 patients annually. The project initially required three buildings to be demolished. In their place, a seven-story, 269,000 square foot facility was constructed. Garrett Mechanical’s pipe-fitting, plumbing, HVAC, and sheet metal contracting services played a pivotal role in the project. The contractor has served various hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and museums throughout the region.

Robert B. Green Campus consists of five levels of patient care facilities. Located at the intersection of I-35 and I-10, the center can accommodate adults and children. The building now has the following facilities on each floor:

– Level 1: An urgent care center, primary care clinic, and neurology department.
– Level 2: A diagnostic imaging center with x-ray, CT, mammography, diagnostic cardiology, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, and MRI equipment.
– Level 3: A specialty medicine clinic plus University Health System’s FFACTS, or Family Focused AIDS Clinical Treatment Services facility.       There is also a FFACTS Pharmacy and a laboratory.
– Level 4: Includes an obstetrics and gynecological section and a family medicine wing.
– Level 5: Houses the clinic’s Ambulatory Surgery Center in addition to an ear, nose, and throat facility. The Oral Maxillofacial Surgery room and endoscopy center are also on this level.

Garrett Mechanical, Inc. Participates in Collaborative UHS Construction Effort

Robert B. Green Campus was part of a $899 million project and was completed in December 2012. It was led by Foster CM Group, a construction project and program management firm. Also involved was a collaboration between architectural firm Overland Partners and RKTL, a worldwide provider of design and engineering services. Artist Bill FitzGibbons was commissioned to create the exterior lighting scheme that now highlights the façade. It is essentially an LED light sculpture consisting of shifting colors on all four facades of the structure, creating a positive impression for patients and others entering the building.

Garrett Mechanical, Inc. President Doug Garrett said, “We are pleased to have been an integral part of the UHS expansion project and to see its success. Ensuring the infrastructure is there for state-of-the-art health care in the region is part of what drives our business. The nationally recognized University Health System can now meet its care objectives and is in our long portfolio of successful large-scale projects.”

Patients have available a number of specialty care services, including cardiology, behavioral health, gastroenterology, hepatology, pulmonary, oncology, skin care, urology, and ophthalmology. The clinic also features resources to treat multiple sclerosis, seizures, and infectious diseases. From wellness check-ups to outpatient surgery, the Robert B. Green Campus is fully equipped to handle a family’s health needs.
