Products with Hyaluronan an Essential Part of Combating Dry Skin According to Study

(Newswire.net — November 4, 2014)  — Though cosmetics and skincare companies have touted the beneficial effects of hyaluronan (HA) for quite some time now, the naturally-occurring chemical had very little research to back up the claims. This changed in July when the Nutrition Journal published research into the effects of HA (http://www.nutritionj.com/content/13/1/70), also referred to as hyaluronic acid, compared to a placebo. During the studies held at the Department of Dermatology at Toho University Ohashi Medical Center in Tokyo, Japan, the effectiveness of the product was shown to be notable, mentioning that HA, “can moisturize the skin because the metabolites of [the chemical] increases the skin moisture content by having an effect on the skin cells.”

While this study focuses primarily on ingestible hyaluronan, it reports that, “Topical moisturizers treat dry skin; however, the elderly and individuals living alone need assistance for applying the moisturizers because they cannot reach their backs. Thus, the improvement of dry skin by ingested HA is considered meaningful for those people.” This shows that the researchers at Toho University understand direct application to the skin of products containing HA offers some very real benefits.

While the chemical’s name may sound exotic, it is available in in most lotions and creams that have been noted as giving users a distinctive, healthy “glow” about their skin. For example, the widely applauded Ultra Hydration Range (http://www.lamav.com/product-category/shop-by-range/ultra-hydration-range/) from La Mav features hyaluronic acid in the Hydra-Max Serum as well as HA in the Hyaluronan Daily Moisture Crème, both of which have received positive reviews across the board for their ability to create a radiance not possible with standard lotions.

As winter in the northern hemisphere draws ever closer, publications like Florida Today have begun releasing tips on how to preserve your skin in the cold weather (http://www.floridatoday.com/story/life/wellness/2014/09/30/skin-preserving-tips-winter/16484207/). The first point they make to keep skin “healthy and beautiful” is to moisturize immediately after washing using products that contain humectants. And, as readers may have surmised, one of the best humectants available is HA. The proven effectiveness of hyaluronic acid should make choosing high-quality lotions and skincare products well worth taking the time to find and purchase them over their subpar counterparts.
