(Newswire.net — December 8, 2014) North Ogden, Utah — Layton Utah fire fighters responded to a fire at the East Gate at Grey Hawk apartments in North Layton Utah. The call came in around 8:00 PM on the night of December 7th when an oil fire started on the kitchen stove top.
The fire originated on the third floor of the apartment complex. The residents of the home attempted to put out the fire in the kitchen sink using water. The smoke and fire damage in the unit was minimized when the fire suppression system activated. The fire department was able to respond quickly and there are no reported injuries.
Utah Flood Cleanup responded to the fire damage loss. The smoke and fire damage in the kitchen consisted of scorched cabinets, appliances, walls, ceiling and melted blinds. The smoke spread throughout most of the two bedroom unit.
The resulting water from the fire suppression system was not contained. Four additional units were affected to some degree from water that came from the original apartment. The original unit will require substantial cleaning and deodorizing, water damage mitigation, drying as well as repair or replacement of the cabinets and appliances in the kitchen. The additional units affected by the fire suppression system will require water damage mitigation as well as drying services.
Rarely is there anything positive to report from a disaster cleanup site. Josh Ray of Utah Flood Cleanup had the following to say, “I was impressed with the apartment complex. They require tenants to have renters insurance. Renters insurance not only protects their personal property, but also gives them liability protection. Fire damage is always unfortunate and sad, but when there is adequate insurance coverage, it really helps a bad situation from becoming worse.”
Damages are estimated at $20,000.
