(Newswire.net — December 11, 2014) Roswell, New Mexico — An old abandoned nuclear silo in Roswell is probably the safest real estate in all of New Mexico, and it is for sale. After an invitation from the realtor Jim Moore, KOB’s ‘Eyewitness’ reporter went to check out the property.
“I say come out and look, make an offer, and you can have your underground castle right away,” said realtor Jim Moore.
You can see from the ground there’s a door to the stairs leading 4 stories underground where the old missile silo ‘with lots of history’ lays, reported KBO. At the bottom of the silo there’s a series of tunnels. A man who used to live in the silo in the 1960s. Tom Edgett, who use to be stationed at the nuclear silo site, came along with KOB on the tour Wednesday.
“If the lights happened to go out, you can’t see anything beyond your nose,” Edgett told reporter.
At the bottom of the silo, there is a big room – an underground cave. One level is where the guards used to sleep; there’s also a kitchen and a bathroom Edgett said.
“There’s also a whole other level, and lots of tunnels,” Edgett says. “When we were stationed out here and I was stationed in charge of the security detachment we had radios, etc..”
“But right now if you got stuck down here, there is no telephone communication; there’s no Wi-Fi,” Edgett told KBO reporter.
The area where the missile was stored back in the 60’s is ten stories underground. ”I don’t think even a direct bomb blast would affect the super structure,” said Edgett.
The silo is located about 20 miles outside of Roswell, and it comes with 25 acres of land and 280 acres of water rights. The previous owner who bought it from the government passed away, said realtor Jim Moore.
“It’s got a lot of memories, but for $295,000 it could be yours,” he said.
“He started to build a house here,” said Moore. “He was going to live his life out underground, and unfortunately, he passed away. This is one of the few missile silos for sale in the United States. It’s one of the more unusual listings that I’ve come across.”
“If you want to build yourself an underground castle, there it is,” said Moore revealing that he already got many calls from the people preparing for the apocalypse.
