Hip Dysplasia and Arthrits in Dogs can be Reduced

(Newswire.net — March 3, 2015) Los Angeles, California — The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFFA) recently released new hip dysplasia statistics, placing bulldogs and pugs at the top of the list for breeds having the most reported cases of hip dysplasia. This updated information has led many new pet parents searching for ways to reduce the problem.

According to VeterinaryPartner.com, “the larger the dog, the more likely the development of this problem becomes, particularly as the dog ages.” Mastiffs and St. Bernards also top the list at number 5 and 6. However, the increase of pug and bulldog owners shows that the problem is more apparent in small and medium breeds than once thought. Wendy C. Brook, DVM states, “the best we can do to prevent this disease is to breed only dogs with normal hips.”

But what else can pet owners do to reduce the risk? “There are nutritional supplements to help repair cartilage, pain medications, and anti-inflammatory medications,” says Brooks.

Georgette Thorsnes, owner of Green Paw Pets, offers some additional advice. “Good nutrition and healthy growth speeds are very important.” Her company’s first product, Jumping Joints and Hips, is a natural nutritional supplement that can help reduce pain and discomfort in dogs that already show signs of hip dysplasia. But it’s preventative maintenance, she says, that will most frequently help reduce the risk.

“Veterinarians and doctors will tell you the same thing – prevention is better than treatment,” states Thorsnes, “a diet high in omega-3’s like fish oil and a multivitamin with Vitamin C and D will reduce the risk and increase a dog’s health.”  A supplement of liquid glucosamine formulated with chondroitin and MSM can also help slow down the process of aging hips and joints prior to any signs being apparent. According to OFFA, “these [supplements] work by providing the raw materials to enhance the synthesis of glycosaminoglycan and hyaluronate that cannot be adequately produced in the diseased arthritic joint.”

Jumping Joints and Hips has formulated quality glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM to veterinarian recommended amounts. Each purchase also includes an educational reading guide about other ways to prevent or slow down hip and joint problems, including massage therapy treatments.

“We really hope to inform and educate more pet parents about the issues before it becomes a bigger problem,” states Thorsnes. “That’s why we’re really pushing more on educating new puppy parents early.” A generous portion of the proceeds from each bottle sold is also donated to animal welfare organizations and local shelter programs.

The company sells their products exclusively on Amazon.com, but expects to make them available directly from their website soon.
