(Newswire.net — March 27, 2015) North Andover, MA — Edgewood LifeCare Community, an award-winning, non-profit independent living LifeCare community in North Andover, has announced the Edgewood LifeLong Learning (ELL) class schedule for April.
ELL is a highly successful, one-year-old program with courses similar to those offered by Boston area universities, yet within a convenient locale – the Edgewood LifeCare Community at 575 Osgood Street. Several lectures will be held in April:
“Lectures on Latin America” will be held every Monday, April 6 to April 27, 2015 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in Edgewood’s auditorium. Francesca Piana, MA will offer a look at the geography, history and culture of Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. A different topic will be discussed each week, beginning with Geography, followed by Latin American and Colonial History, Latin America Republican History and Literature of Latin America. Ms. Piana taught history, international relations and Spanish literature at the University of San Francisco, Phillips Exeter Academy and Phillips Academy in Andover prior to her retirement.
“You Can Count On It With Zab Warren” will be held on Thursdays from April 16 to May 7, 2015 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Resident Conference Room. In this course, author Zab Warren will introduce arithmetic in a unique way, emphasizing five ways of learning: by listening, by speaking, by seeing, by writing, and by playing with colored blocks called Cuisenaire Rods.
“The Germ of an Idea and Vice Versa” will be held on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in Edgewood’s auditorium. The idea that germs can sometimes cause disease has been around for a long time, but who first demonstrated that the idea is correct? Bill Campbell will discuss germs and infectious disease in this illustrated talk.
Drop-In “Genealogy Workshop” will be held the first Monday of every month at 10:30 a.m. in Edgewood’s Classroom. Audrey Ladd, Edgewood resident, will lead this on-going workshop focusing on searching, recording, using the various forms, working on the computer, and learning how to handle the occasional brick wall. Registration is NOT required for this drop-in class.
