(Newswire.net — June 8, 2015) Metro Parkway, Florida — Indoor air quality is probably something that many people have never thought much about. However, it is a topic worth considering, as most people spend approximately 90% of their lives indoors. Joe Machado, owner of Technical Services, has been helping people improve their home’s indoor air quality in South West Florida for over 20 years. He recently shared some of his thoughts about why people should be concerned about the quality of their indoor air and steps they can take to improve it.

The Hidden Dangers of Indoor Air Quality

Outdoor air pollution has been a hot topic for many years. But ironically enough, inside people’s homes where they feel safest, indoor air pollution is typically 2 to 100% higher than the air that is outside of their house. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, 72% of a person’s exposure to chemicals occurs within their own home.

According to Joe Machado, many of his clients are surprised to learn that the indoor air quality of their homes contains so many hidden dangers. Although they are unable to be seen by the naked eye, chemicals, mold, and particulates can be lurking in the air people breathe every day. These factors can negatively affect anyone’s health, but are particularly dangerous to those suffering from allergies, asthma, lung disease, and other chronic conditions.

How to Improve Indoor Air Quality

Fortunately, there are steps homeowners can take to improve their home’s indoor air quality. Joe Machado of Technical Services recommends changing the home’s air conditioning filters every 5 to 6 weeks. Those who run the air conditioning frequently, have pets, or have someone in the household that smokes should change their system’s air filters every 3 to 4 weeks.

Regular vacuuming is another step homeowners can take towards improving their home’s indoor air quality. At least two times per week, use a strong suction, rotating head vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter to remove toxins and allergens. High-traffic areas should be gone over more than once. Homeowners can reduce the pollutants being brought into their homes in the first place by placing large floor mats at every entrance.

Technical Services offers indoor air quality testing and Rotobrush duct cleaning services to homeowners in South West Florida. Anyone who is interested in learning more about these services is encouraged to contact Technical Services at 239-574-1247
