Local MP Intervenes in Pensioner’s Battle with Bedford Estates

(Newswire.net — June 21, 2015) Adelaide, SOUTH AUSTRALIA — After several weeks of intensive campaigning to help 88-year-old Alzheimer’s patient, Francis Devereux remain in her 72 Ridgmount dwelling, Bedford Estates have finally provided an offer of a tenancy to the senior citizen.

This major breakthrough came only after the Cafferata family sought the intervention of recently elected Member of Parliament of Holburn & St. Pancras, Sir Keir Starmer, QC, MP.  Due to enquiries made by Starmer to Bedford Estates, Francis Devereux, 88, an Alzheimer’s Patient, received an offer of a tenancy from Steve Archer, Head of Residential of Bedford Estates.

The offer of tenancy to Ms. Devereux is an outcome that Francis is delighted about. Though she is highly concerned the offer of tenancy made no mention of the continued occupation of John Giltrap, another one of Mrs. Cafferata’s lifelong friends who also lives at the apartment.  To the Cafferata Family it is quite baffling that John, who was also mentioned in the petition, did not receive a joint offer of a tenancy with Francis.

Mr. Giltrap is a pensioner and, therefore, does not have the financial means to find alternate accommodation. Like Francis, the Cafferata children do not want to see him ousted from the place he has known as home and made a ward of the Camden Council.

Therefore, despite the offer of tenancy to Ms. Devereux, the Cafferata family is not willing to let up their campaign against Bedford Estates until an offer of a tenancy is also made to John Giltrap.

To ensure that their voice is heard, Jean Mackenzie from BBC London News recently interviewed the Cafferata Family and John Giltrap about his plight. Through this interview, it is hoped that greater media attention will help John win his battle for a tenancy.

In closing Francis would like to say a huge ‘Thank You” to the thousands of followers on Twitter who have provided emotional support during these very stressful times.
