(Newswire.net — July 16, 2015) — Before IBM launched its first PS, the Commodore entered the Guinness book as the single best selling computer ever with over 17 million sold. After decades of disappearance from the market, the Commodore again returns into the game, however, this time as a smartphone, Wired reported.

The new Commodore PET smartphone powered by Android has a rather common design but lots of power under the hub. The phone features a 1.7 GHz Mediatek 64-bit 8-core processor and a huge 3000 mAh battery to power it up. It would sell in two versions, depending on RAM memory. The cheaper version would come with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage memory, and will cost around $300. Adding slightly more cash ($364) will provide you with 32GB of internal memory and 3GB RAM.

Both versions have a 13-megapixel Sony sensor powering the main camera, with a bright f/2.0 aperture, which make 4096×2304 pixel resolutions, and full HD video (1080p). Both can be operated with the shutter button on the right side to the case.

With its 5.5 inch full HD Gorilla Glass 3 display,  PET is designed more to suite mobile gamers than average phone users.

The new Commodore PET smartphone has dual-SIM 4G connectivity. It runs on the Android 5.0 Lollypop OS, however, it would come with preinstalled emulators which will enable users to run some of the magnificent C-64 or Amiga programs, and that is what would make this smartphone unique. It’s a powerful arcade in your palm with some of the coolest ever C-64 and Amiga games installed in a basic pack.

On internal storage capacity, users can save every game Commodore was famous for, and if it is not enough, both PET versions come with additional 32GB microSD cards, installed in a 64GB capacity slot.

Besides the classic Commodore biscuit-beige color, a new PET would come in a white and black case, though additional colors may be added, Wired reported.

Reportedly, PET will initially be available in European Nation countries Germany, Italy, France and Poland. More EU countries and the US will be added to the shipping list later.

This isn’t the first time Commodore has tried to make a comeback. Five years ago, Commodore USA released the C64x, a PC version powered by an Intel Atom processor, Nvidia Ios2 512mb grapfics, 2 and 4GB ram, up to 1TB storage, Blu-ray reader and the Ubuntu OS in a classic C64 case. However, there weren’t enough nostalgic users, and generations from 90’s on often don’t understand the significance of the C-64.
