Passion in Portland Authors Featured On Fox 12 Oregon

(Newswire.net — July 29, 2015) Portland, Oregon —More Good Day Oregon host, Stephanie Kralevich, interviewed 7 Oregon romance author for a segment scheduled to air August 3, 2015 on the 9 am program. New York Times Bestselling Authors Melody Anne and Cassia Leo, along with USA Today bestseller AJ Harmon, and International and Amazon Bestsellers, Shéa McCloud, Anie Michaels, S.M. Stryker and Heather Carver represented the 63 authors committed to attend the Passion in Portland – Author Signing Event on September 12, 2015.

“I think people are surprised to learn that so many romance authors live in the Northwest,” stated AJ Harmon, the event host. “And we’re blessed to have a number of them attending Passion in Portland, along with other amazing writers from across the country. It’s going to be a fun day for romance lovers.”

The interview took place at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Downtown Portland, the site for the Passion in Portland – Author Signing Event. Seated just outside the Bellmont Ballroom, Stephanie Kralevich discussed the romance industry with the local novelists who live to read and write romance novels.

When asked if Fifty Shades of Grey influenced their writing careers, the authors responded with mixed reports. Paranormal romance author Shéa McCloud claimed she was more inspired by Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Twilight, having published prior to E.L. James. Contemporary romance novelist S.M. Stryker stated that Fifty Shades had freed her up to include sexual intimacy in her books because it was no longer taboo. One author claimed that the series had launched her career after being challenged to write a better love story, but you’ll have to tune in to More Good Day Oregon to find out who.

When asked how they felt about their industry being call “Mommy Porn” the authors had plenty to say. In a candid conversation after the interview the authors had a good laugh about it. Agreeing that the intimate inspiration found in their books had saved more marriages than they could count, unlike real pornography that degrades women and destroys families.

“If a man’s feeling intimidated by his significant other’s book boyfriends,” explained AJ Harmon, author of the First Class Novel Series, “he’d better learn to up his game! We know that the nearly perfect men in our stories aren’t real. But it wouldn’t hurt anything if more men strived to be more like them.”

The Passion in Portland – Author Signing Event was born out of Harmon’s frustration at having to fly back east to attend a large romance author event. She wanted an event in the northwest where romance readers and writers could connect.

“The support from the authors has been overwhelming. Everyone is so excited about coming to Portland and the great state of Oregon for an event,” AJ continued. “I just hope the romance readers understand that we do events for them… for a chance to connect and share our passion for romance novels with them. I just know the romance readers in the northwest will join us in Portland and hang out with the amazingly talented women who write the books we love to read.”

The authors at Passion in Portland will be donating books and prizes to a raffle raising money for Bradley Angle, a domestic violence shelter right here in Oregon. Your support of this event will serve survivors of domestic violence.
