(Newswire.net — August 12, 2015) Fort Collins, Colorado — In noteworthy local charity news, on Saturday, August 22nd, the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the nonprofit organization known as myTEAM Triumph will be participating in the Pancakes for PDCD 5K Run/Walk Event in scenic Centennial, Colorado. The highly ‘active’ charity team will be attending and supporting their very own Captain Elizabeth, who will be leading her special crew thru to the finish line.

This is actually the 2nd annual Pancakes for PDCD 5K Event, the purpose of which is to raise money for researching Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex Deficiency or PDCD. Although this is a rare mitochondrial metabolic disorder, it is still among the most common of its kind. Moreover, there currently isn’t any cure for the disorder, and although it can often be managed with ongoing treatment, further research is required in order to help prevent it and hopefully find a cure someday.

The event will take place at DeKoevend Park on University Boulevard in Centennial, so providing the weather agrees, it should surely be a fun day for everyone who attends, whether racing, helping, cheering, or all three of the above. The Elizabeth Watt PDCD Research Fund will host this 5K Run/Walk and 100% of the donations will go directly towards research that is presently being conducted on Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex Deficiency at Rainbow Children’s Hospital.

Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex Deficiency (PDCD) affects many people around the globe, which certainly makes it a worthy AND worldwide cause. Therefore, in addition to being able to walk or run in the event, they will be offering the option of a “virtual” run for anyone who is not able to make it to Centennial. Since this is a run that can be ran in any location, you could even walk, use a treadmill, run outside, or take part in another race for the cause. Hence, even if you cannot attend, you can still help out by running your race at your own pace wherever you may be.

myTEAM Triumph is a non-profit charity organization whose stated mission is ‘To enhance the health and well being of individuals with disabilities by fostering lasting, authentic relationships through the teamwork environment of endurance athletics.” There are Chapters of the charity all around the world and they are always looking for team members in addition to donations. Their team competitors with disabilities are called Captains, and the athletes who have the privilege of assisting the Captains on the course are appropriately called Angels.

For those who would like to participate in the Pancakes for PDCD event, the start time is 8:30am MDT and the race fee/cost to register is $45.00 per person. Plus, there is also the option to easily make local team donations online. Some other upcoming events that the Rocky Mountain Chapter of myTEAM Triumph will be involved in are the Cherry Creek Schools Fitness Festival 5K on September 12th and the Denver Rock and Roll Half Marathon on October 18th. Therefore, there is still a lot more action in store for the steadfast charity organization this year!
