Denton Garage Door Company Mistaken for Worst in Nation

(Newswire.net — October 22, 2015) Flower Mound, TEXAS — If you happen to be A Garage Door Service, that is the actual name of a business locally owned by Denton garage door repair company owner Korey Robertson, you just may be mistaken. Another company, located in Carrollton, has been voted as worst garage door company in the nation. That is largely because the company preys on unknowing consumers by creating online profiles and advertisements that closely match the name of existing businesses. According to the Dallas Morning News, they steal the traffic from other reputable companies and then charge high-ticket prices and cheat their customers. According to Robertson, “My company used to be called A Garage Door Service or AGS. This other company dropped the “A” and called themselves Garage Door Service to steal my traffic. I started getting calls asking me why I was dishonest and cheating people. I was not very happy as you can imagine. We have since changed our name to AGS Home Services.”

Robertson is not the only company affected by GDS, the name most often used by the company, according to the Dallas Morning News. They are nationwide and prey on unsuspecting consumers. They often do correct the problem that was reported by the consumer but their average ticket price is around $1000, more than the cost of replacing the entire garage door. In some cases, the charge was well over $1500. Robertson adds, “Your average repair bill for garage door service in Flower Mound would be around $200. There is simply no way a company should ask a consumer to pay more than what a new unit would cost. That is simply cheating the customer.” That is exactly what GDS is being accused of. However, nothing seems to stop these guys from continuing with their scam. They have had licenses revoked, have been fined and even been voted worst garage door company in the nation.

So what should a consumer do to ensure they are not taken advantage of? First, do your homework to ensure this is actually a local company in good standing with agencies like the Better Business Bureau. Second, never pay up front for any service. Robertson suggests, “You want to ask what the base service fee will be and if you go ahead with the repair, pay by credit card. Also, if the estimate is over a few hundred dollars, you may want a second opinion.” That is good advice. If a repair is over $300, you should seek a second opinion. Robertson agrees, “AGS Home Services built our reputation on being fair and honest. If ever a customer calls asking us for a second opinion, we are quick to offer a phone estimate at no charge. Too many companies out there are over-charging the customer. In fact, they tell their reps to drive up the bills. We simply do not do that. A customer should only pay for what is needed. Nothing more.”

So what about the deceptive company that has been voted worst in the nation? Robertson adds, “This company is a  nuisance to consumers and reputable businesses. But this happens in just about every industry. Consumers need to be smart and do their homework. Our 5-star reputation on Google, Yelp and other platforms speaks for our quality of service. Be aware of the name and ask the company for clarification. Ask them to repeat their name and tell you their local address and/or phone number. Then go do your homework and ensure this is the correct company.” AGS Home Services, owned by Robertson and his business partner, is a reputable company in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex who has been serving customers honestly for years, not to be confused with GDS or Garage Door Service company.
