Robots Will Save People in the Future

(Newswire.net — November 30, 2015) — Last few decades there have been several attempts in the world of science and technology to construct a robot which could be more than useful to people and which can become a part of the society. Striving to achieve this goal, a team of Italian scientists has constructed  the robot that can easily adapt to the environment and prove helpful in critical situations.

The new robot called ‘Walk-Man robot’, designed at the University of Pisa and the Instituto Italiano di Tecnologia (the Italian Institute of Technology) has anthropomorphic characteristics and is quite capable of using all the tools that people generally use. Scientists believe that the robot will prove to be of great help when it comes to search and rescue situations.

This robot is programed to elevate heavy loads, like large parts of buildings and to clear debris by using tools made for humans. What also seems to be convenient is that this humanoid robot can access all areas accommodated for people’s use.

In his interview with Reuters, Nikos Tsagarakis, the lead researcher said:”There’s one factor that everyone agrees, that our world, our environment was designed for our body basically. So, we have tools that are designed to be grasped by human hands. You have also areas or access paths that are actually appropriate for our body forms. So it means that if you build a robot that has a similar form, you need to adapt the environment less in order to have this robot operational within such a space.”

To resemble humans even more, the Walk-Man robot uses its limbs very skilfully and easily overcomes obstacles due to its stable balance and movements.Tsagarakis also said:”We believe that- as humans also do- that legs are not enough. You have to use also the arms, you have to be able to grasp environment and actually assist your locomotion by creating addidtional contacts with the environmental balance.” It is six feet tall and it weighs 118kg, 

When the scientists have improved it even more, it will be able to reach unfriendly and mostly inaccessible terrains for people in order to fulfill their mission, which is saving humans. The robot will eventually be autonomous, but for some time it has to have somebody who will back it up and make decisions if necessary. The robot will be made faster, but not too fast because there is a greater risk of accidents. This is much better, efficient and life-saving use of robots that bringing people drink and cleaning thier houses.
