(Newswire.net — December 7, 2015) Seattle, WA — A website designed to help people who need to have a home remodeled due to a new disability or handicap is now online.

The Disability Remodeler website is now live. This site provides some quick information and advice on finding a contractor who has experience in the field of planning and carrying out home remodeling projects that have become necessary due to a homeowner becoming disabled or having a mobility issue.

The website’s publisher, Sam DeMars, said that this new site is set up to help homeowners in Washington State find and choose an experienced home remodeling expert for either their own home or for the home of a family member who needs some assistance.

“A lot of families end up needing to modify a residence in order to better suit an older family member,” stated DeMars, “Sometimes this situation occurs slowly over time as a family member grows older and their health declines, or sometimes it occurs very quickly due to an accident or sudden downturn in someone’s health.”

“Lots of families are doing whatever they can to keep older family members in their homes,” continued DeMars, “And that often times means modifying a home in order to make it easier for that family member to move around the house.”

“A lot of houses aren’t set up very well for a someone in a wheelchair or walker,” she said, “And you usually don’t realize it until you try doing it. But there are a few changes a person can do that will make a big difference in increasing someone’s ease in moving around.”

Typical Home Projects

According to DeMars, the three most common home projects are outside entrance wheelchair ramps, bathroom remodeling and kitchen remodeling. Projects can range from a simple wheelchair ramp, widening some doorways and adding some safety grab bars in a bathroom to installing an elevator or a stair lift.

“The biggest mistake homeowners make is trying to do these remodels themselves,” DeMars said, “It isn’t that some homeowners don’t have the ability to complete some of these simpler projects, but usually the results aren’t very attractive. A lot of these do-it-yourself projects end up looking like they were hurriedly planned and completed during a weekend, which, in many cases, is exactly what happened.”

“We recommend that homeowners consult with a professional contractor who has some experience with these types of remodels,” concluded DeMars, “These guys will be able to provide some really good advice and recommendations and will be able to deliver a completed job that looks good.”

DeMars mentioned that their site is still new and in the development phase, so it may be a while until each city has a robust list of contractors. For more details, you can visit http://www.disabilityremodeler.com.
