Climate Change Will Help Bugs Kill More People

(Newswire.net — December 8, 2015) — Bugs will be the ones who will prosper from incoming climate change, not people, the experts say. Why is it so? The answer seems to be simple- because of the heat. Very well known disease carriers, mosquitoes and various types of germs are very comfortable living somewhere warm and it seems that there are more places where it will be hot and humid where they will certainly live longer than they used to. The thing they dread most is the cold, since this is what kills them, so they will do anything to avoid it.

These insects have already found new terrirtories like the Andes, north Canada and the U.S. where they could spread tropical diseases like the virus of the West Nile.

Dr. Francesca Dominici, senior associate of Biostatistics at Harvard University’s School of Public Health said:” Insect-borne diseases like dangue fever and malaria are now being reported in higher elevations in Asia and Latin America. Mosquitoes that carry malaria are being found in areas where before they would die”.

As a result of climate change there will be additional one quarter of a million deaths in the world between 2030 and 2050 according to World Health Organisation. People will most likely die from diarrhea, malaria and heat.

This is why these climate talks in Paris are so important. They are actually vital for our survival. It is imperative that poor countries get additional money to try to deal with the climate change, because in these countries the diseases will be at their highest.

Dr. Kevin Cromar, director of the Air Quality Program at New York University says:” When we estimate health impacts from climate change, far and away the majority of all health damage by climate change is diarrhea mortality and that will be most pronounced in sub-Saharan Africa. Second to that would be insect-borne diseases like malaria”.

So what is actually going to happen? Temperatures will be a lot more higher, sea levels will rise, there will be more severe storms and air pollution will go up. High temperatures – more heart diseases and heat strokes; extreme droughts and floods – more drownings and malnutrition cases; rising sea levels – people will have to move; more heat and drough t- more fires which will pollute the air, which will bring more cases of asthma and such like conditions. All of this will, of course, have impact on food and drinking water and create ideal conditions for bacterial diseases.

This time both rich and poor will suffer. Heat waves in Chicago and Europe took away more than 70000 lives and this will become a common thing due to this climate change. Wealthy people can move somewhere safer, they can install air conditioning and spare generators in large hospitals and important buildings, anything that can be done to alleviate or prevent potential consequences of climate change.

The world is waiting to see the results of Paris talks because this whole planet depends on them and everybody is hoping for the best. Experts have had their say, now it’s up to governments to have theirs.
