(Newswire.net — March 18, 2016) Anaheim, California — Sparkle Athletic, a running skirts and accessories company based in Orange County, CA, will be participating in the SoCal Ragnar Relay Series. For the third time, the team will once again run to raise awareness of Rett Syndrome and funds for the charity Girl Power 2 Cure. The company’s team, Team Sparkle, will be running 190 miles for 190 girls with Rett Syndrome during the Ragnar race.

Girl Power 2 Cure is an organization that raises awareness and funds for treatments and a cure for Rett Syndrome, a devastating neurological disorder that almost exclusively affects girls. They provide support in the planning and implementation of events as well as support the families of Rett patients with resources, fundraising help and awareness tools.

“We became aware of Rett Syndrome when we met our friend Allison, one of the women on our team, and her daughter Emma,” says Kelly Lewis, one of the three women behind Sparkle Athletic. “As you can imagine, for us, it’s a cause close to our hearts.”

Ragnar is a company that organizes the largest overnight running relay series in the United States. Teams from across the country come together to complete a difficult 190-mile course in the span of two days and one night. The relays are held in select, breathtaking places on the globe. A team may battle other teams in their division for the top ranking or simply finish the race together.

In conjunction with the race, Sparkle Athletic will also hold their second annual #TeamSparkle virtual 5k. The virtual 5k allows individuals who will not be running the Ragnar race to virtually join Team Sparkle. All profits will be donated to Girl Power 2 Cure. “It was so fun and powerful for us to run Ragnar ‘for the girls (with Rett Syndrome),’ we wanted to find another way to include other people, so they could have that same experience,” Lewis adds.

The company encourages participants to share photos of their running gear, their medal, or their run on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter using the hashtags #TeamSparkle and #ragnar4rett. Last year, 800 participants from all over the world joined the virtual 5k. To date Sparkle Athletic has raised more than $84,000 for the charity.
