The Preiss Company Adds Property in Q1, Expects Growth

(Newswire.net — April 13, 2016) Raleigh, NC — The Preiss Company, the third biggest privately-held provider of off-campus student housing in the United States, acquired four new real estate properties during the first quarter of 2016. The company anticipates tremendous growth to go on for the rest of the year. 

 “Growth has been a part of our DNA for some time,” says Donna Preiss, The Press Co.’s founder and CEO. “All four of our acquisitions were brought to us by existing partners, and we’re very proud of that. Our growth has been about the partners that we have been able to attract and keep. We try to bring value into any relationship that we enter.”

The properties they acquired during the first quarter of 2016 include three premier locations in Boca Raton, Florida. The portfolio is comprised of 128-bed University Square, 165-bed University View and 599-bed University Park. All three properties are located within a mile of Florida Atlantic University. 

 “We’re excited about the Boca Raton properties because we’re the first purpose-built collegiate-based residential property operators in that market,” states Preiss. 

The fourth property Preiss acquired was Collegiate Commons, a 324-bed student housing property situated across North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro. It will be going through an extensive $1 million renovation this spring, which include upgrades to room interiors, amenities, signage, and the clubhouse, as well as a major internet connectivity upgrade. 

In 2015, The Preiss Co. added a sum of 16 properties through management contracts and acquisitions, raising their portfolio room count by 33% to over 28,000 beds in at least 16 states and 31 markets. Furthermore, their third-party management side added a total of 13 properties with roughly 4,800 beds in eight states. 

“Last year we experienced 33 percent growth, and in the last six or seven years I don’t think we’ve had less than 25 percent in any given year,” Preiss adds. “This year, we hope to complete somewhere around 10 acquisitions.”
