Back & Hip Pain Did Not Kill Prince

(Newswire.net — April 25, 2016) Darien, CT — The recent passing of Rockstar Prince Rogers Nelson is a sad statement on the overuse of prescription painkillers. The seemingly youthful and energetic musician reportedly died from a prescription overdose of opiates used to treat chronic back, hip and ankle pain. The Centers for Disease Control says that prescription opioids, can help relieve pain in the short term but also come with serious risks and potential complications and must be prescribed and used carefully. In light Why are people being allowed to continue to over medicate?

The need for instant gratification is rampant in today’s society. Pain relief is important but not nearly as important as saving a life. What can be done? There are more controls then ever on doctors who prescribe these highly addictive medications. Isn’t it time for medical doctors to think outside the box? What about the use of acupuncture? Is there a role demanded for alternative therapy such as chiropractic? These questions beg further study. Pain has always been around. Are we as a society asking for more human suffering by continuing to stress pharmacological intervention without considering methods that already exist? Both acupuncture and chiropractic care can offer pain sufferers a viable solution to the use of opioids.

A suggestion would be to initiate better understanding between allopathic physicians and alternative providers. The medical approach is important in treating pain. By opening a dialogue M.D.’s can learn when and how to refer their patients for pain control to minimize dependency on medication. There are far too many stories of people less famous then Prince who get hooked on prescription medication. It is time to try and stop more people from dying from prescribed drug over doses.
