(Newswire.net — September 6, 2016) Philadelphia, PA — La Mega was recently purchased by Spanish Sports Network; a media network of sports entities for Hispanic markets. Spanish Sports Network C.E.O. Michael Sciore says, “We are excited to present exclusive Spanish broadcasting for the Philadelphia Eagles and give our listeners live coverage of every game this season.” With the preseason games already over, La Mega will be moving quickly to begin broadcasting games before the start of the regular season. La Mega was able to secure broadcast rights to become the only station in the Philadelphia metro area to offer Spanish listeners the most reliable and complete coverage of NFL games.

“La Mega is in the midst of exciting changes, like the additional focus on delivering the sports content that the Philadelphia, Allentown, and Atlantic City areas enjoy so much, of course, in the language they are most comfortable with. La Mega 105.7 FM is now a a part of the NFL’s focus on Hispanic communities, and we believe it will help expand our reach into other areas of the country in the future,” says Sciore.

The NFL has made a deliberate focus in recent years to capture and grow the interest of Hispanic markets both internationally and locally. Most recently, the league has been scheduling some individual games in Mexico City to introduce more fans to American-style “futbol.” The Houston Texans have even signed an affiliate deal with Mexico’s Grupo Radio Centro to export broadcasting of all their games in Guadalajara (XEDKR/700), Monterrey (XESTN/1540) and Mexico City’s XEN/690.

The last time an NFL game was held in Mexico City was on October 2, 2005, when the Arizona Cardinals defeated the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 31-14 at Estadio Azteca under the name NFL Footbol Americano. It was the first regular season NFL game held outside of the United States and drew the NFL’s highest game attendance at the time with 103,467. On Monday, November 21, 2016, the first game since 2005 will take place in Mexico City when the Texans take on the Raiders. The NFL’s push to have more games in Mexico further demonstrates the growing amount of interest in the NFL throughout all Spanish markets.

The Philadelphia Eagles open the season hosting the Cleveland Browns September 11th at 1:00 P.M. at Lincoln Financial Field.
