CHANEL released the timepiece, specifically designed for men, at Baselworld 2016 last March. This was a first for the legendary fashion house, as it has historically designed women’s watches exclusively. The MONSIEUR de CHANEL launched to critical acclaim, hailed for its sleek design and nods to CHANEL’s storied history.

This beautifully masculine watch is 40 mm in diameter with an 18k BEIGE GOLD case and crown. It also features an ivory opaline dial and black alligator strap. CHANEL’s classic emblem and symbol, a regal lion head, is found on the watch’s crown, buckle and movement. As with this watch, the lion emblem will be on any watch with a CHANEL in-house movement.    

Manifested over a five-year period, an attribute unique and groundbreaking to this timepiece is the CALIBRE 1 manual-winding mechanical movement. This is CHANEL’s first movement component that is designed, developed and assembled in-house. The hours, minutes and seconds feature contemporary, stylized typography. The MONSIEUR de CHANEL has jumping hour and retrograde minute displays, which are unique timepiece features. An octagonal frame surrounds the numerals of the hour aperture. This shape is inspired by the stunning Place Vendôme, a significant piece of Parisian architecture. The timepiece also features its unique serial number, in this instance No. 5, engraved on the back watch case rim. Only one person will be privileged to own this very special timepiece.
