(Newswire.net — September 9, 2016) — Gay marriage is now legal, but a bizarre case of incestuous gay marriage between mom & daughter surfaced after the two had been married for over 6 months. The two now face up to 10 years in prison.
Misty Spann, 25, and her biological mother, Patricia, 43, have been arrested after nearly half a year living together as a couple. The two got married on March 25 and received their marriage certificate four days after that, making their union official in the city of Duncan, Fox News reports.
The truth surfaced during a routine investigation by the Department of Human Services to check on the children living in Spann’s house in August.
Misty and her two brothers changed their last name as they were raised by their paternal grandparents after Patricia lost custody of them, DHS officials explained. The mother and the three siblings, however, reunited two years ago.
Patricia had told investigators she immediately “hit it off” with her daughter when the family reunited.
After living together as married couple for nearly six months, Patricia and Misty are now sharing a criminal case but different cells in Stephens County Jail.
Booking pictures show Patricia and Misty in matching Superman t-shirts, with calm expressions even though the two are facing up to 10 years behind bars.
According the mother, Patricia Spann, she was not aware that marrying her own daughter was a violation of the law as the two had different names at the time they get married. She guessed that because Spann “was no longer listed on” Misty’s birth certificate, there weren’t any legal obstacles.
However, officials have found out that Patricia was not new to incestuous marriages. She reportedly married one of her sons in 2008, but it was annulled in 2010.
It is not clear what motivated the two women to marry each other, despite knowing about their family link.
While there has been cases of relationships between parents and adopted childred, such as the famous case of Woody Allen, 79, who has been in a relationship with his wife’s [Mia Farrow] adopted daughter, 44, for 23 years, cases invloving parents marrying their biological children are extremely rare.
