Why Today’s Veneers Are Better Than Previous Years

(Newswire.net — September 12, 2016) Greenwood Village, Colorado — Many people have been self-conscious of stains or chips in their smile. Dr. Aldo Leopardi helps patients get their confidence back with a new smile using porcelain laminate veneers. Porcelain veneer technology has come a long way with recent technological developments.

New Porcelain laminate veneers feature a high grade ceramic, that is durable and porous like real teeth. Porcelain veneers are used to cover up stains or chips. Most prosthodontists use this material for veneers, as it can last from 10 to 15 years. Composite veneers are more susceptible to chipping or staining. The veneers of today are quite stain resistant. If you get them, a dentist will still recommend that you avoid staining foods or liquids, just as you would for your teeth.

The benefit to newer veneers is that they require no extra care. Good oral health and upkeep is all that is required. Flossing and brushing daily, in addition to routine checkups and cleanings is perfectly adequate care for patients with veneers. Existing oral health is necessary for veneer candidates. Healthy teeth and gums are required. Patients with tooth decay or gum disease need to fix those problems before veneers are applied.

Composite resins originally were used for veneers, but it was found that they were less durable and chipped more often. They required fixing or filling in with more resin, which leads to more imperfections over time. Porcelain veneers are stronger, and when they do chip they are completely replaced with a new veneer. Porcelain veneers also tend to last much longer than composite resin veneers. The process of getting composite veneers can be reversible, and porcelain veneers are not, as it requires the removal of a thin layer of enamel. Porcelain veneers are much more durable and are quite resistant to stain and wear over time.

Today’s veneers can also be colored to match the rest of your teeth. If a whiter overall tooth color is desired, then whitening the natural teeth is recommended prior to the commencement of Veneer Therapy.  Thereby, the new veneers will match the overall whiter teeth/smile.

Getting veneers does require a longer visit than a routine dental visit. It uses an easy application technique gluing the thin pieces of high grade porcelain to the existing teeth. The veneers Dr. Leopardi uses are created in a lab to match the natural look of your existing teeth.

Porcelain veneers offer a multitude of advantages when compared to composite veneers. They last longer and are more durable. They are able to be matched to the color of your existing teeth and they are easy to care for and maintain.
