(Newswire.net — September 20, 2016) Bend, Oregon –Lithium Ion batteries are the perfect fit for CartTek’s electric golf trollies and remote control golf carts. Since the introduction into the Carttek lineup of carts three years ago the growth of cart sales using lithium ion batteries has increased to 70% of all sales.

There is a good reason for this popularity of the Lithium Ion batteries. They are incredible work machines! These batteries can power the golf carts through 18 holes of golf with ease and usually complete 27 holes without a recharge. The charge cycle for these batteries vs the standard lead acid battery is faster also. A 24Volt 10 amp hour Lithium battery will charge in about 3.5 hours where as a comparable 12V 36 amp hour sealed lead acid (SLA) battery takes about 5.5 hours to charge.

Weight, there is more! The 10 AH lithium battery only weighs 3.5 lbs vs the comparable SLA battery weighs 24 lbs. It is a breeze to carry the lithium battery to your charger after each round and most golfers really appreciate that. The lithium battery size is only 8 inches x 3 inches by 2.5 inches. This allows for the battery to be put into your golf bag if you desire. Amazing how much power comes from such a small and light power source.

The longevity of the Carttek lithium battery is another great advantage over conventional SLA battery technology. The typical lithium battery can be used and charged approximately 800 to a 1000 times. This will allow even a frequent golfer to get up to 5 years of use with only minimal connector maintenance. The average SLA battery can be charged about 125 to 150 times.

Lithium batteries are smart also. These batteries contain logic that rotates the charge among the various cells that make up the battery which protects the cells from causing a “memory” that limits the charge capacity. This is common in SLA batteries.

Lithium batteries do cost more initially than sealed lead acid and absorbent glass matt (AGM) batteries but the cost over time is an advantage due to the longevity of the lithium battery. Also, as lithium batteries increase in popularity the cost is expected to drop as capacity ramps up. That will increase the lithium advantage even more.

Based on the sales growth of lithium carts vs our SLA carts, it appears to CartTek that lithium batteries have taken charge of the golf cart business as the best power source for all models. The advantages are evident to our customers too and it shows when the research is done before making the cart buying decision that leads to another lithium powered cart sale!
