(Newswire.net — November 9, 2016) —Donald Trump crossed the threshold of 270 votes needed for victory after he got ten electoral votes in Wisconsin.

The Republican candidate won 276 electoral votes, while Hillary Clinton won 218. Trump was more successful than Hillary Clinton in Alaska, Utah, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Texas, Oklahoma, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Wyoming, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Montana, Missouri, Ohio, Louisiana, Arkansas, Idaho, North Carolina, Florida, Iowa and Georgia.

Clinton won in California, which carries 55 electoral votes, and the state of Washington (12), Virginia (13), and Colorado (9).

She also won in Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, Vermont, District of Columbia, Illinois, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Hawaii and Nevada.

The Republican candidate however won in the states that have long been considered as the Democrats firewall, such as Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, where nobody has voted for a Republican candidate since the 1980’s.

The  Democrats debacle allowed the Republicans to retain the majority in both houses of Congress.

Election day polls confirmed the deep divide among voters, which also has been seen throughout the campaign. Women across the country massively supported Hillary Clinton, while men more often supported Trump. Also, more than half of white voters supported the Republican, while nearly 9 out of 10 African Americans and two-thirds of Hispanics voted for Clinton, according to Reuters.

The dollar has already weakened against the euro after the election results showed that Donald Trump won. The dollar fell almost two percent against the euro. Reuters reports that changes in the stock market have also come due to Trump’s views on foreign policy, trade and the issue of migration.

And while the whole world is divided in relation to whether it is good or bad that the 45th US presidential election was won by Donald Trump, his supporters celebrate victory.

In his victory speech at the Manhattan Hilton Midtown hotel, Trump said that Hillary Clinton called him and congratulated the win.

“I’ve just received a call from Secretary Clinton. She congratulated us — it’s about us — on our victory. And I congratulated her and her family on a very, very hard-fought campaign”, Trump said and added:

“Now it is time for America to bind the wounds of division. We have to get together. To all Republicans and Democrats and independents across this nation I say it is time for us to come together as one united people. It’s time. I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all of Americans, and this is so important to me. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past, of which there were a few people, I’m reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can work together and unify our great country.”

He finished his speech with this words: “And I can only say that while the campaign is over, our work on this movement is now really just beginning. We’re going to get to work immediately for the American people and we’re going to be doing a job that hopefully you will be so proud of your president. You will be so proud. Again, it’s my honor.”
