(Newswire.net — December 13, 2016) Orlando, FL — Arthritis is one of the painful conditions that typically hinders sufferers from enjoying summertime. The good news is that there are actually measures they can take to improve their condition, and one is to make some dietary changes.

Dietitians reveal the summer foods that can help fight arthritis. Inflammation-fighting foods are among the most recommended edible items for individuals with arthritis. The local farmer’s market can offer fruits and vegetables believed to be helpful in fighting inflammation.

According to Kim Larson, RDN, CD, dietitian, a national spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics, there are health benefits of the Mediterranean diet. This diet involves increased consumption of fruits and vegetables.

Larson added that there are main food groups believed to be helpful in reducing inflammation, such as antioxidants, flavonoids, and polyphenols.

Peaches are some of the food helpful for arthritis sufferers. This type of fruit is rich with antioxidants and is perfect for an RA diet. Nectarines, plums, and cherries are also recommended.

The Journal of Nutrition published a study that found consumption of four to nine cherries on a daily basis for a minimum of 28 days resulted in reduced signs of inflammation in the body. Cherries can be consumed alone or with non-fat yogurt.

Katherine Basbaum, RD, a clinical dietitian in the cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation section at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, reveals that summer fruit is always a winner for individuals with rheumatoid arthritis.

Summer fruits such as tart cherries have abundant levels of melatonin. This is a hormone that is widely believed to be effective in fighting insomnia.

In a lab research published in the International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases, it was found that consumption of turmeric and ginger for 28 days helped in RA inflammation. Arthritis sufferers may check on their spice shelf and incorporate turmeric in their diet.

Turmeric has a powerful healing phytochemicals called curcumin, which contains various healing substances. Some of these healing substances are its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant, antiseptic, anticarcinogenic, and antiviral properties.

The anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric are thought to fight inflammation and pain caused by arthritis. Turmeric powder is an excellent addition to a wide range of delectable dishes and beverages. It can be quite easy to incorporate it in one’s diet.

There are also curcumin supplements available. Supplements contain high levels of curcumin, which makes them a more therapeutic option.

Arthritis sufferers may use curcumin supplements wit BioPerine, which is a black pepper extract (www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI/).
