(Newswire.net — March 9, 2017) Orlando, FL — Turmeric is one of the superfoods that continues to catch the interest of many health enthusiasts and individuals who suffer from certain medical conditions. It is thought to be helpful in fighting certain diseases and disorders.

Turmeric may potentially help peptic ulcers in as little as four weeks. This condition is characterized by the formation of painful sores on the stomach’s inner lining, which is called a gastric ulcer, and the duodenum.

There are rare cases when the condition develops above the stomach in the food pipe. Some of the symptoms of the condition include heartburn, belching and bloating, vomiting and nausea, as well as upper abdominal pain. This pain often takes place before and after meals.

In severe cases, sufferers experience more troubling symptoms. These may include vomiting blood, weight loss, poor appetite, and severe pain in the abdominal region. Melena, which is characterized by black tarry stool, can also be one of the symptoms.

There are severe complications that can be caused by peptic ulcers, such as perforation, bleeding, and blockage of the stomach.

Some of the factors that contribute to the development of peptic ulcers are an H. pylori bacterial infection, long-term usage of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, and stress caused by certain medical conditions.

There are pharmaceutical drugs used to help treat peptic ulcers. Individuals who want to resort to natural alternatives may want to consider the use of turmeric.

In traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, turmeric has been used for thousands of years to potentially fight a range of conditions. Many of its possible benefits are thought to come from its phytochemical called curcumin.

Curcumin contains a variety of unique substances, which are believed to offer anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral, antibiotic, and anti-carcinogenic properties. In a study, turmeric was found to be helpful for individuals with peptic ulcers.

The study involved 45 participants between the ages of 16 to 60 years, who had symptoms of peptic ulcers. The researchers performed an endoscopy on 25 of the participants, and located ulcers of varying sizes in the intestines and stomach.

After 4 weeks of turmeric dosage, it was found that in 12 out of the 25 participants who took turmeric, there was an absence of ulcers. The rate of absence of ulcers also improved in 6 out of 25 participants after 8 weeks of turmeric.

Consumers may incorporate turmeric powder in their diet. This spice can be added to a wide range of delectable dishes and beverages. There are also supplements available that are popularized by the higher amounts of curcumin they may contain.
