China Is Building a Bird Airport and Making You Forget About Bird Feeders

(Newswire.net — March 10, 2017) Woodbridge, Virginia — A ‘bird airport’ will open outside of Tianjin, China in 2018, one of the country’s largest cities. Tianjin is directly along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway (EAAF), a migration route used by fifty million birds, which spans 22 countries, from the U.S. to Russia to Indonesia.

Some of the birds fly nearly 7,000 miles over ten days without nourishment to reach Tianjin. Due to the increasing urbanization of the Tianjin area, few birds stop here for a much-needed rest and nourishment. The plan for the bird and nature reserve called Lingang Bird Sanctuary, will include three unique water habitats, 50 acres of forest and a research center for tourists. In addition to providing refuge for migratory birds, the sanctuary will be educational for visitors and provide much needed fresh air in the smog-filled region. It is hoped that this first ‘bird airport’ will be imitated around the world, allowing diverse ecosystems to thrive in an increasingly urban world, and to protect endangered migratory birds.

While the average person can’t build bird sanctuaries that span over 50 acres, we can create a small oasis for our feathered friends in our backyards. A simple way to create a space that birds will love is to hang a bird feeder. What kind of bird feeder you choose to purchase depends largely on the species of birds in your region, as well as, what species of bird you most enjoy spotting.

A popular option for bird feeders is the window bird feeder, a clear acrylic bird feeder which hangs on to the window with suction cups. The construction gives those inside the home a front row seat to easily view birds feeding at the window.

If you love hummingbirds, the Aspects Hummingbird Window Bird Feeder is highly recommended. It features a detachable ‘ant moat’ to block crawling insects, a hinged lid for easy filling and space for three hummingbirds to feed at once.

If you love songbirds, the Kanaryware Window Bird Feeder is the bird feeder for you. Its scalloped roof is charming, its construction allows water (from rain, snow, sleet) to seep through the feeder, so the seeds do not mold and the perch is spacious enough to allow up to three birds to feed at once. According to a recent Amazon customer’s review: “Easy to install, within a week we had birds lining up to use it. Cleaning is also easy with this item, needing no special items. I like the fact that I can put whatever seed in there, to attract all types of birds. I love it, my cat loves it- we call it cat TV!”

By creating a small oasis for birds in our own gardens, we can nourish our feathered friends, as well as rejuvenate our yard and surrounding area.
