(Newswire.net — March 22, 2017) Ann Arbor, Michigan — Video content continues to gain ground as an important part of the business environment. Enterprise video platforms (EVPs) have lagged behind in terms of technology and features over the past decade, but big changes are coming to many of the most popular EVP options. Keith McKitrrick, Vice President of North American Hockey Operations at Gold Star Sports Management, knows that video represents a powerful tool for many businesses, and can be used in marketing, promotion, training, and customer service, to name only a few of its applications. Keith served as a video coach for collegiate and professional hockey teams, and he has seen the value in enterprise video firsthand. “Technology in EVPs stagnated over the past ten years or so,” says Keith. “However, new browsers and new protocols have breathed new life into this important business tool.” To learn more about Keith, visit: http://www.goldstarhockey.com/keith-mckittrick.

In years past, many popular Web browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox, and early editions of Chrome relied on complex plug-ins to allow smooth video playback. With so many different video formats and codecs, the plug-in model led to difficulties in using video content to its fullest extent. Marketers found it difficult to integrate videos into marketing strategies, especially on emerging social media platforms. “The industry has moved away from plug-ins in the past two or three years,” adds Keith. 2017 promises to be a year when browsers offer built-in support for video playback, thanks to the HTML5 protocol.

HTML5 is now the default playback protocol in Google’s Chrome, requiring users to give permission for Flash-based content to be run. Flash, long a stalwart in web interactivity, has fallen out of favor in recent years due to its lack of security and power-management features.

Cloud-based enterprise video platforms have also lost market share. Businesses and site developers have rejected cloud-based platforms out of concerns about security. The industry is scrambling to find cost-effective and secure solutions to gain back market penetration. Some businesses have moved to on-premise EVPs, which have significantly higher capital costs than cloud-based solutions.

As a means of offering security but keeping costs low, many providers have adopted a hybridized solution. “Splitting processes between in-house and cloud offers the best of both worlds,” says Keith McKittrick. “Hybrid vendors may limit functionality in an effort to create additional revenue, so businesses must explore the details of hybrid computing arrangements.” For more information on Keith and his many years of experience in professional sports management, visit https://newswire.net/newsroom/pr/00092956-keith-mckittrick-joins-gold-star-management.html.
