(Newswire.net — March 30, 2017) Darien, CONNECTICUT — Dr. Brian Nathanson of New England Physical Care, LLC has been quietly helping women who have gone through mastectomy surgery. You would think that the mental pain of having gone through breast cancer was enough to deal with. Sadly the physical pain lingers due to the formation of scar tissue as a result of the live saving surgery.

Enter Dr. Nathanson, he is one of a few physicians trained in a soft tissue technique called Graston. Not being a household name, you are probably wondering what Graston is? Human tissue is a living breathing group of specialized cells grouped together by function. There are four main types of tissue: muscle, epithelial, connective and nervous. A radical surgical procedure will interrupt potentially all four of these tissue types. The body during the healing phase will adapt to the new stress by allowing the formation of adhesions. The term adhesions refers to the formation of scar tissue, a term which most people understand.

After surgery the adhesions restrict motion and can be quite painful. The good news is that the cancer is gone. The bad news is that the breast cancer survivor can be left with a tremendous amount of pain. Dr. Nathanson uses Graston to release the painful adhesions allowing the tissue to heal with more movement resulting in less pain. Unless you have gone through a mastectomy yo may have a hard time understanding how painful the adhesions are.

The treatment consists of actively stretching the tissue in a normal fashion. Then a topical lubricant is applied to the epithelial surface. From here Dr. Nathanson uses a stainless steel surgical instrument to debride the fascia covering the affected muscles. This procedure reduces the painful and restrictive adhesions quite effectively.

Dr. Nathanson saw a need to help breast cancer survivors using Graston and has been quietly helping cancer patients for over 9 years. He takes great pride in helping breast cancer survivors lead full pain free, cancer free lives. He goes on to say that his role after the cancer is removed is vital. Many surgeons send their patients to him for the unheralded results he delivers using Graston. His office is located at 120 East Ave. in Norwalk, it is called New England Physical Care. He invites any question you have and looks forward to helping more breast cancer survivors. He can be reached at 203-642-4611.
