(Newswire.net — May 19, 2017) Las Vegas, NV — Arthritis comes in many forms, and the most common consequence in having this condition is pain. This painful condition doesn’t only cause symptoms but is also linked with certain complications.

British researchers reveal that knee arthritis may be associated with premature death. This is based on the findings of a study on female participants with osteoarthritis.

According to scientists, women with osteoarthritis are almost twice as likely to die early from any cause. They are also three times more susceptible to dying of heart complications comparing to individuals without arthritis knee pain.

The lead author Dr. Stefan Kluzek reveals that the findings of the study demonstrate that self-reported osteoarthritis knee pain, as opposed to hand pain, appears to be a significant factor resulting in early cardiovascular mortality.

He also added that it is more likely to be associated with decreased mobility. Dr. Kluzek is from the Arthritis Research UK Centre of Excellence for Sport, Exercise, and Osteoarthritis at the University of Oxford.

In the study, it was also found that there wasn’t any risk of early death among women suffering from osteoarthritis pain in the hands. The women participants with x-ray evidence of knee arthritis but without pain were also not susceptible to the increased risk of premature death.

According to Dr. Kluzek of the International Osteoporosis Foundation, more research is necessary to achieve more comprehension about how people are able to adapt to knee pain, and particularly, how it results in cardiovascular impairment.

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis in the United States. It is believed to be caused by the wear and tear of the joint cartilage. This arthritic condition causes pain and other symptoms that subject sufferers to live a reduced quality of life.

There are certain medications thought to be helpful for the condition, and one is nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). However, since these pharmaceutical drugs may lead to side effects, there are those who turn to the use of safer, natural alternatives.

One of these alternatives is curcumin, which is a bioactive ingredient found in turmeric. It was a popular spice in traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda. Curcumin is widely believed to be responsible for many of the spice’s potential benefits.

Curcumin is believed to contain anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, antiseptic, antibiotic, antiviral, and anti-carcinogenic properties. Today, many arthritis sufferers are turning to the use of curcumin supplements. Supplements are believed to be more therapeutic as they may contain higher levels of curcumin.
