(Newswire.net — May 23, 2017) Eugene, Oregon — AM Solar has a reputation as being the place to go for state-of-the-art RV power system upgrades and they have just raised the bar once again. AM Solar has partnered with WattLogix in Bend, OR to launch a Lithium Control Module designed to protect Victron lithium battery systems from dangerous charge levels and extreme temperatures. The new module will simplify system designs, improve trouble-shooting and reduce installation costs.

A major design challenge with lithium battery systems is preventing harmful overcharging or overdischarging of the batteries. Unlike lead-acid batteries, which have voltages that are reflective of charge status (called the Peukart Effect), lithium batteries require a Battery Management System (BMS). This is because Lithium batteries have a more constant voltage that is not as indicative of the charge level which makes them more susceptible to damage. Additionally, lithium batteries are damaged by a charging current that is applied when the cell temperature is below 0 degrees C (freezing).

AM Solar has designed this new system to simplify this problem. The AM Solar Lithium Control Module uses a temperature sensor and controls all the battery charging and discharging sources with high current relays and mosfet switches.  No programming or configuration is required. The unit designed to be plug-and-play, with the DIY installer in mind.

This system prevents overcharging and undercharging by monitoring temperature and charge level. When the battery temperature goes below 0 degrees C, or the battery is fully charged, the Lithium Control Module disconnects the alternator, solar array and shore power charging system.  When the battery is fully discharged, the DC loads and inverter are disconnected.

AM Solar anticipates the Lithium Control Module to be consumer ready by mid-June 2017. Call AM Solar today to get an appointment for installation, or get your solar panel RV kit questions answered.
