(Newswire.net — June 14, 2017) —The new first couple was pictured holding hands as they walked from Marine One. Melania’s parents, Viktor and Amalija Knavs, were also aboard.

Melania Trump has tweeted from her official @FLOTUS account: “Looking forward to the memories we’ll make in our new home! #Movingday.” The first lady wrote this on Sunday evening, after she and her 11-year-old son Barron had moved into the executive mansion at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Her tweet also featured a view o the Washington Monument from a window in the White House.

Stephanie Grisham, Melania’s communications director, confirmed the move, also on Twitter. He wrote: “It’s official! @FLOTUS & Barron have made the move to DC! #WelcomeHome.”

The first family was living apart nearly five months. Since his inauguration, Donlad Trump has lived and worked at the White House, while Melania and Barron were living at Trump Tower in New York.

The Trump couple agreed that the mother and son should stay in New York until the end of the current school year.

Last month, Melania said that Barron will attend a private school in Maryland this fall. He will start as a sixth grader at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac.

Trump also has four adult children from two previous marriages: Don Jr., Ivanka, Eric and Tiffany.

In recent US history, this was the first time the first lady did not move into the White House with her husband.

But Melania was with Donald when foreign leaders and their spouses visited the White House, and she also accompanied the president on his first foreign trip, a nine-day tour of Saudi Arabia, Israel, Italy and Belgium.

According to some US media, New York interior designer Tham Kannalikham has decorated the White House, to reflect Melania’s style and taste.

“I am honored by the opportunity to be working with the first lady to make the White House feel like home,” Kannalikham said in February, after Melania and Donald Trump had hired him to redesign the White House private quarters.
