(Newswire.net — September 14, 2017) Los Angeles, CA — Songwriting partners, Grace Slick of former Jefferson Airplane and local musician Michelle Mangione, have launched a new campaign called Writers for the Storm to raise money for the victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Writers for the Storm aims to bring together songwriters and music consumers to raise money for disaster relief aid. The campaign urges songwriters to make a download of a song available for purchase for $1 via a link on the campaign’s website and to donate 100% of the proceeds for hurricane relief. The website, www.writersforthestorm.com, is being hosted completely free of charge by Bandzoogle.

Slick and Mangione kicked off the campaign by re-releasing their song “Edge of Madness,” which was originally released to raise money for the victims of the Gulf oil spill in 2010.

Exene Cervenka of the band X has contributed the song “Following Orders,” co-written by Mangione.

The website is updated and tracked daily by Mangione, who is donating her time and does not receive any money from the campaign or the music downloads.

The campaign places no restrictions on participating songwriters nor the songs they choose to offer for download. As long as the artist agrees to donate 100% of her proceeds for hurricane relief, any songwriter can post a link for a song download to the website. Songwriters are responsible for donating their own song’s proceeds to the charity of their choice.

“If you’re a songwriter who would like to help the victims of recent hurricanes, your music can make a difference,” Mangione says on a PSA now being circulated on radio and social media. “Even one download can make a difference. Let your music bring hope to those who need it most.”
