(Newswire.net — October 18, 2017) Costa Mesa, CALIFORNIA — On Friday, October 27th, New Directions for Women will be hosting a free and exclusive half-day training on Mindfulness and the Twelve Steps of Recovery with Dr. Fran DiDomenicis. Dr DiDomenicis is a psychologist in private practice in the San Francisco East Bay area. He has spent more than 45 years pursuing progress for those who suffer from addiction. He founded the Delaware Association for Children of Alcoholics and completed his dissertation on the personality traits of adult children of alcoholics and the prevalence of a variety of emotional stressors in alcoholic families. He has integrated his years of experience with his learning from the Buddhist field to improve the addiction treatment field.

Mindfulness is an ancient form of awareness. It has been used, typically in the Buddhist lifestyle, to clear the conscious, relieve stress, improve thought process, and stimulate productivity. Today, it has been integrated into the addiction treatment field as a tool for recovery: a practice known as Mindfulness Meditation. It has proved to be extremely helpful as patients battle emotional responses and physiological cravings.

The compatibility of the core teachings of Buddhism with Alcoholics Anonymous were recognized at the earliest days of A.A. Since then, gifted authors and teachers on their personal 12 Step recovery paths have helped clarify the ways in which Buddhist teachings can help those in recovery with useful insights and practices to support their 12 Step work. Mindfulness meditation is a cornerstone of most Buddhist traditions and offers recovering alcoholics and addicts important methods to apply to all of their work with the 12 Steps.

The three-hour training will include topics around desire and aversion, Dharma as a form of Higher Power in one’s recovery process, the noble truths of addiction, as well as the five precepts and hindrances within recovery. In addition, Dr.DiDomenicis will introduce key Buddhist teachings as applied to addiction recover, link specific Buddhist practices and teachings to the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, and lastly, offer materials and suggestions about applications with addicted clients. To register, please contact Christina Vecchi at (949) 313-1192 ext. 103.
