(Newswire.net — December 13, 2017) Orlando, FL — There are many types of arthritis, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. This condition is often linked to aging, but it appears that certain people are more prone to the condition.

Research suggests that women may be more susceptible to arthritis. By nature, women are found to have a triple threat of risk factors in terms of arthritis. These threats are hormones, biology and genetic predisposition. What makes this even more unfortunate is that many women have an added risk factor, which is obesity.

According to statistics, the rate of women with osteoarthritis is higher than in men. In the United States alone, there are nearly 27 million individuals with the condition and 60% of them are females.

Alexander Shikhman, MD, PhD, founder of the Institute for Specialized Medicine in Del Mar, CA, reveals that osteoarthritis-affected joints tend to vary by gender. Dr. Shikhman is also a Medical Director of Restorative Remedies.

It has been found that men are more likely to suffer from arthritis in the hips while women tend to suffer from it in the hands or knees.

According to Yusuf Yazici, MD, a rheumatologist at New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases in NY, women’s bodies are engineered to give birth. This means that the tendons located in their lower body are more elastic. Their joints tend to move around more.

There are many arthritis sufferers who resort to the use of pharmaceutical drugs. However, medications such as pain relievers may cause side effects. This is why an increasing number of arthritis sufferers are considering the use of pharmaceutical drugs.

Today, there is a myriad of health food stores available and many can even be found online. There is a wide assortment of nutritional and dietary supplements to choose from, which may potentially satisfy the medicinal needs of consumers.

Patrick Rea, editor of the market research publication Nutrition Business Journal, reveals that in 2016, the total sales for the dietary supplement industry in the United States was estimated to reach $22.1 billion. This includes the sales of vitamins, minerals, weight loss products, meal supplements, herbs/botanicals and sports supplements.

While there are medications available, it may be worth considering certain natural alternatives, which are often safer, more effective and less costly to use.

Glucosamine may be a potential joint health-enhancing and arthritis-fighting natural alternative. It is even widely thought to be a safer alternative to certain pain medications.
