Tech billionaire Elon Musk, famous for being founder and CEO of Tesla Inc. and SpaceX has launched a new product.
The product in question is a $500 novelty flamethrower.
While that sinks in let’s take a few steps back and try to figure out how this all happened.
Musk founded a tunnel construction company in 2016 creatively named The Boring Company.
Many thought this was just a joke, since the idea for the company arose while Musk was stuck in traffic and wanted to dig holes through the ground in order to avoid traffic jams.
Since then The Boring Company has been selling only one product, a black baseball cap with the company name in white stitching.
The hats were being sold for $20 each.
Elon Musk, being the business man that he is, vowed that if The Boring Company managed to sell 50,000 hats they would start producing flamethrowers.
And here we are.
After netting a cool million on baseball caps the tunnel construction company is now selling a novelty flamethrower that Musk guarantees will “liven up any party!”
The Boring Company plans to produce 20.000 flamethrowers, of which more than 10.000 were already sold in the first two days of preorder.
Musk advertised the product with a video on his instagram profile, commenting ” a flamethrower is a super terrible idea. Definitely don’t buy one. Unless you like fun.”
The video shows him turning the flamethrower on and then jokingly charging at the person filming.
While some skeptics are wondering if this is even legal, Musk was quick to rebuff their concerns pointing to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives guidelines. Such an item is legal since the jet of flame it can project is shorter than 10 feet.
He also tweeted about accusations that he is “secretly creating a zombie apocalypse to generate demand for flamethrowers,” adding “You’d need millions of zombies for a so-called “apocalypse” anyway. Where would I even get a factory big enough to make so many!?”
The official The Boring Company Fire Extinguisher is being sold separately for as they claim “an overpriced $30.”
