(Newswire.net — September 17, 2015) — Here are our picks of ten of the best new or improved 2015 models:
1. BMW 3 Series
A huge success, the 3 Series oozes driver appeal while being a highly practical choice. It’s grown in size since the original’s launch 40 years ago.
The 2015 incarnation is more evolutionary than all-new. Improvements to the cabin, revised engines – including three-cylinder turbos and a hybrid – should keep it at the top of the tree in its class.
2. Fiat 500
The pint sized Fiat has been a runaway success, and the new version doesn’t tamper with its retro chic styling. In fact, at first glance it’s hard to tell the difference between old and new.
Fiat says that some 1,800 parts have been changed but many reviews argue it’s more of a refresh than a new model. Mild exterior changes and a new infotainment system are the obvious main differences.
The main criticism, that it’s not especially good to drive, hasn’t been address though, to according to some reviewers.
3. Volvo XC90
Amazingly it’s thirteen years since the original XC90 was launched, so not surprisingly the new model has an all-new platform and engine range. It’s up against some stiff competition from the BMW X5, Land Rover Discovery and Porsche Cayenne.
4. Honda Jazz
This hugely popular supermini is now in its third incarnation. Space and quality – already key attributes – have been enhanced and a hybrid version is due.
5. Ford S-Max
Ford’s popular people carrier’s revisions include some improved convenience equipment such as power folding seats, self-parking and a hands-free tailgate.
6. Ferrari 488 GTB
This beautiful looking sports car is notable for the Italian manufacturer’s decision to move over to turbocharging as a way of reducing CO2 emissions. Performance hasn’t been compromised – it’ll scorch to 60mph from rest in three seconds.
7. Jaguar XE
An important model for the British car maker as it represents their re-entry to the compact executive market, where fierce competition in the form of the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C-Class awaits.
With an all-aluminium body, the XE has been engineered to be as fun to drive as its rivals but cheaper to run thanks to an ultra-frugal diesel option.
8. Kia Picanto
Kia’s little Picanto has been a top selling city car for the past few years. The Korean manufacturer has refreshed, rather than totally revolutionised, the new model with mild exterior revisions, a cleaner 1.0 litre engine and some new exterior styling options.
9. Mazda MX-5
A massive success, with over 900,000 sold, the new car has a slightly more muscular look than its predecessor and is about 100kg lighter. Newer petrol engines make it cleaner, more economical and even more fun to drive.
10. Land Rover Discovery Sport
This compact version of its larger namesake replaces the Freelander and takes on formidable competition such as the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 and offers seven seat practicality.
Its original 2.2 diesel engine came in for some criticism but has been replaced since launch with an altogether more refined and efficient 2.0 motor.
More new cars
2015 has been a busy year for new releases along with the above, and models from the likes of Alfa Romeo, Audi, Porsche, Vauxhall, Peugeot and VW have hit the showrooms. There’s plenty of inspiration for veterans of the road to save up and switch or, indeed, for learners to quickly learn the ropes, pass their test and get on the way to owning one of these stunning vehicles.
