(Newswire.net — November 15, 2014) — Washington – After Republicans took over the Senate, President Obama announced that would not block plans to implement immigration reform as he may go for his executive authority. GOP, however, warns that if Mr. Obama goes forward with the executive order, Republicans may pursue efforts to impeach the US President.
As Obama warned last Wednesday that he would take whatever lawful actions, he feels are necessary to “improve the function of our immigration system,” Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), the soon-to-be Senate majority leader, said that unilateral decision making “would be like waving a red flag in front of a bull.”
The Republican Party will soon have control of two-thirds of the Senate, so “impeachment would be a consideration,” said Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) in a video published online, .
Since they sparked a fire, republicans will now further fuel those flames. Rep. Walter Jones (R-North Carolina) told Breitbart News on Wednesday that to him a constitutional question “means that we have the option of impeachment,” calling such action the best way to respond to any executive amnesty for illegal immigrants.
“We have a constitution, and I am very disappointed from year to year that we do not follow the constitution. To me, if you think the president has violated his trust of office, meaning with the American people, then follow the constitution,” Jones added.
“This idea of prosecutorial discretion is really a travesty,” said Fox News on Thursday, conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer told Fox News. “It was never intended to abolish a whole class of people subject to a law and to essentially abolish whole sections of a law. And that’s exactly what’s happening here,” Krauthammer said. He agrees that that any executive action from the president on the issue of immigration would constitute “an impeachable offense.”
Rep. Trey Gowdy, (R-S.C.), however, have different view on impeachment issue.
“Nobody is discussing impeachment except for pundits and commentators,” he said. “First of all, impeachment is a punishment, it’s not a remedy. Second of all, the only people who want to talk about impeachment are the president’s allies,” rep. Gowdy said on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor”.
He is not willing to take the “bait” of moving forward with impeachment proceedings against Obama. Rep. Gowdy said.
